ROAR Events

Our volunteers are hard at work organising and managing days out, activities, meet & greet sessions and much, much  more. Here you can keep up to date on what we've been up to.

Canterbury Recovery Walk

Reach Out and Recover is proud to announce our second Canterbury Recovery Walk, a meaningful community event bringing people together to walk, talk, and support recovery.

This year’s walk will take us along the beautiful route from Toddlers Cove to Chartham, offering a chance to enjoy the outdoors while raising vital funds to support Reach Out and Recover’s work across the local community.

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens through connection, compassion, and consistent support — and this walk is all about exactly that. Whether you are in recovery yourself, supporting a loved one, or simply want to stand alongside others and make a difference, everyone is welcome to take part.

Funds raised from the Canterbury Recovery Walk will go directly towards supporting our life-changing services, helping individuals and families affected by addiction, mental health challenges, and social isolation. Every step taken helps us continue providing safe spaces, peer support, and practical help to those who need it most.

If you can't join us on the day you can still show your support with a donation of any size made HERE

Emma Urquhart Cup 2025

The Emma Urquhart Cup 2025 was a huge success, bringing together community, sport, and recovery in an unforgettable celebration for Reach Out and Recover.

This year’s event was made even more special by the presence of Tony Adams, whose powerful story of resilience and recovery is an inspiration for everyone involved in the day. His openness and passion perfectly reflect the values at the heart of the Emma Urquhart Cup — hope, connection, and the belief that change is possible.

Teams, supporters, and volunteers came together to create an atmosphere full of encouragement, camaraderie, and positivity. The day showcased not only great football, but also the strength of a community united behind recovery and wellbeing.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who took part and helped make this event such a meaningful and memorable success. The event truly was a day worthy of Emma's memory!

Attendees will come together over 8 sessions to either explore their own creative writing skills with the help of guest speakers from the creative industries or have the option to improve their cooking skills, with a new recipe each week, and sit to enjoy a meal together

Starting off in Thanet, further courses will be added to the schedule with exact dates and locations to be confirmed in the near future

Thrift Swap & Shop

On 2nd March and in association with Dry Miles recovery we welcomed the public to Sunflower house in Folkestone for a day of Unity!

The day included a raffle, small indoor boot fair, vintage clothes sale, book swap, art sale, information station and more.

This was our final fundraising event aimed specifically at our SMART recovery fundraiser and in part proceeds went towards exactly that.

Forward Trust National Reunion 2025

January once again marked The Forward Trust’s annual national reunion, and we were grateful to be invited to return and host a table once again.

At the 2024 event ROAR was truly in its infancy with less than 6 months in operation so it was brilliant to return a year later with updates to share with those attending.

.

Speakers included ROAR volunteers Lindsey & Carrie who were invited in their capacities with the Forward Trust to speak on stage and were brave enough to share their stories with openness & honesty. Well done ladies!

We know how much hard work goes in behind the scenes in arranging an event at this scale so we would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at The Forward Trust who put time in to arranging such a brilliant day for us all!

Naloxone Training in Dover

Raising awareness around opiate overdose reversal drug Naloxone has been at the forefront of much of our work throughout the entirety of 2024, with the importance of this work being felt close to home with the passing of ROAR volunteer Emma in the Summer.

In December we were pleased to continue that good work with volunteers Louis & Calum invited to train the staff at Emmaus in Dover,  as well as hitting the town centre to speak to the public and hand out kits. In total almost 40 people were trained which is certainly to be celebrated.

With each kit handed out we remember that it could be that one which saves a life.

The Addiction Conversation - Addiction Awareness Week

This year the first week of December signalled Addiction Awareness week 2024, a brilliant campaign aiming to reduce stigma around addiction and promote recovery.

We were excited to hear ROAR volunteers Ben & Calum has received an invite to this year's opening event "The Addiction Conversation".

At ROAR we measure our success in part by the growth of our volunteers so it's great to see them get this opportunity and the chance to spread the word to others in attendance

Pottery Sale

With fundraising to bring SMART recovery meetings to Kent in full flow, fundraising lead Daisy has been pulling out all the stops in order to help use edge towards our target.

7th December she took her own handmade pieces to a craft fair in Broadstairs.

Her work drew plenty of attention and we're proud to say she was able to raise almost £200 for the project.

Halloween Extravanganza

With Halloween being celebrated across the country in pubs & nightclubs, we decided to open up a celebration of our own.

Open to anyone affected by addiction, interested in sober events or in recovery already, ROAR volunteer Tony put together a fantastic event which was by all accounts a resounding success.

With a live DJ all evening, arts & crafts and games available for the children, it was our very own Darren, Maria & Daisy (right) who came top of the class in the adults fancy dress contest.

ROAR Creative Wellness Day

In October we were grateful to be able to bring together ROAR volunteers and members for the first ROAR wellness day!

ROAR volunteer Ella worked hard behind the scenes to bring together a variety of practitioners and a fantastic day thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

The input of Evoke creative wellness enabled us to provide a truly unique experience for our attendees. Evoke specialise in introducing creativity as a meditative practice, with their sessions in particular drawing high praise.
