ROAR with Pride

Pride month is in full effect and we at ROAR had an absolute blast at Canterbury Pride this year.

We had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people and make some wonderful memories.

The LGBTQIA+ community is so disproportionately affected by addiction, with about 30% of people in that space suffering with addiction issues. It’s our hope that having a presence at these events can help to lessen that statistic.

Pride is a time of year to celebrate what makes us all unique, the things that some of us grew up being ashamed of ourselves for. Having the opportunity to serve my community at Pride was really a dream come true. ROAR strives to help everyone who needs help regardless of gender or sexuality. You’ll be able to catch us at many more Pride events though the year.

Queerness these days seems to be pushed into spaces that tend to have a heavy focus on alcohol and drugs. It can feel hard to find a sober place to express yourself and you without the pressures and triggers of nightlife. If you find yourself also wishing for a safe place to express yourself while maintaining your sobriety you can join us at Deal pride on the 13th July or get in touch with us via the website and leave some suggestions on how we can better serve you.

On a personal note feeling ashamed of how I felt and who I loved was a large part of the reason I became an addict, I tried so hard to suppress this huge part of who I am because I was worried I wouldn’t find acceptance and be shunned by those around me. However, in my short time being part of the ROAR team I’ve found more love and acceptance than I ever thought possible.

Love is four letter word but so is hate, make sure you choose the right path
